Session - Psalm 27
Psalm 27 is our focus this week. It is another one of David's psalms - a personal cry to God. It is a powerful psalm that tells us that where ever the believer is, they can find a way to the throne of grace by prayer.
I think the psalm speaks of a life that is full of changing situations, where our confidence in the Lord seems to change with our moods. We may feel confident in God's goodness in the midst of one crisis, yet fearful and doubtful as we face another. Either way, this psalm stirs us to see God and trust him in our fears.
Some questions to ponder:
1. What does it mean to "seek the face of the Lord"?
2. What does it mean for God to be your light, your salvation and your stronghold? (from a personal perspective).
3. What would it mean for you to be hidden in God's shelter or hidden in God's tent?
4. What does it mean for God to set you high on a rock?
5. How can the message of this psalm help you handle your fear better?
6. What is the key of being of good courage?
7. What prevents David from losing heart?
Prayer: Faithful God, the shelter of all who hope in you, may those who seek your face be set free from fear and distress, and come to see your goodness in the land of the living; through Jesus Christ, our Light and our Salvation.

Attempting to at least downsize my files after David's inspirational homily on Sunday, I came across this interesting clipping:
ReplyDeleteWhen the world seems bigger than God, read psalm 90
When your prayers grow selfish read Psalm 67
When people let you down read Psalm 27
When you feel depressed read Psalm 34
When you feel lonely read Psalm 23
Blessings Muriel
Thanks for the suggestions, Muriel!
DeleteSession # 4 Psalm 27 at Kaye's
ReplyDeleteKaye began with a prayer blessing the group, blessing those who were absent and asking God to guide us in our thoughts .....
We then read the Psalm together and proceeed with our open discussion... In response to what does it mean to 'seek the face of the Lord' One of the members gave a very interesting answer. .... She said that one night ,very recently, she went out unto her back deck, with mug in hand, to relax ,it was moonlight, the sky was clear enough to see the stars, she leaned her head back and gazed into the heavens , and verbally admired the beauty and works of God.... That to her was 'seeking the face of the Lord..... Awesome!!!! ... We all agreed that 'seek the face of the Lord' can be seen in natureas well as people.
... 'For God to set you on a high rock' we see that as protection.
...'The key of being of good courage'..... we see as the power of prayer
...We felt that David's belief that he'll see the goodness of the lord is what prevented him from losing heart.
We ended our session with the suggested prayer... and headed for our homes on good spirits.
Don't really intend to be annonymous. a bit of difficulty setting up blog account..
